Health Testing

Pre-Entry Testing Requirements

The following health standards have been put in place for your protection as well as ours. This gives everyone the peace of mind that the semen produced at our facility will be of the highest quality. Please complete the following health test prior to arriving at the CGS facility.

Physical Examination
Semen check prior to arrival is highly recommended
Tuberculosis
Though most states have a free status this is still a required test
Brucellosis
Though most states have a free status this is still a required test
Leptospirosis
Any result other than less than 1:100 for any serotype will require an additional test after a two week waiting period.
Trichomoniasis
This is still a required test even if the bull is a virgin
BVD
Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD)
Johnes
Test only required if bull is 3 years old or older
Anaplasmosis
ELISA test

On the day you bring your bull to CGS, please bring copies of the following:

Health paper (if out of South Dakota)
Copies of the above health test
Copy of registration paper

Health tests are only good for 30 days. Make sure to coordinate your bull’s arrival date with CGS prior to starting health tests.

CGS offers the above pre-entry health testing at our off-site facility for untested bulls. Call office prior to bringing an untested bull to check for offsite availability.
