I come into this opportunity with great optimism and excitement! Being around this team in the early stages, it has already become evident that this facility has the foundations to become a leader in the semen production industry! It is my job to help provide top quality care for the bulls. This care will come through pen and facility maintenance, regular observation on health and well-being and a partnership with J&R feeds to provide a balanced diet – custom to each bull to give them the best opportunity to produce high quality semen.
Before joining the CGS team, I graduated from South Dakota State. While there, I worked with some of the nation’s most progressive cattlemen, helping with animal care and sale preparation. I feel lucky to have travelled the country and worked with operations that have developed some of the most distinguished reputations in the cattle industry. I hope through a combination of science and real-world practicality, and a thirst to strive for top quality every day, I can help to develop this same reputation for Custom Genetic Solutions. I look forward to talking with you at anytime, so we can discuss your bulls or the options we have to help further the success of your operation.
My name is Alexis Ostrom and I am the Office Manager at Custom Genetic Solutions. My role within the office includes talking with customers, running our state of the art equipment, organizing our daily business efforts and working alongside CGS team members to make sure our customers get the best service possible. Another role within the company that I have is overseeing the laboratory and running the advanced analysis testing. In my short time working at CGS, I have had the opportunity to work with our software developer to bring you a program that is beneficial and user friendly. As customers, you will be able to access your semen inventory and view collection information from the lab through this software system. There is so much more I will be working on to ensure the highest quality service and customer experience. I am looking forward to interacting with each and every one of you!
Before CGS, I grew up on my family’s farm in Northern Indiana where we have row crops and Simmental cattle. I was involved in 4-H, FFA, church youth group and showed cattle. Through the connections I made in these organizations I started coming to South Dakota in high school to visit friends and ever since, I have been hooked. Shortly after, I began my college career at South Dakota State University where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. I now live in Salem and couldn’t be happier to call South Dakota home.
I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as Operations Manager for Custom Genetic Solutions. It has been a rewarding experience to work with the staff and members in the development of this business. It is truly something special to be involved with this business right from the start. I believe we have assembled the finest team to ensure great bull care, top notch customer service, effective harvest and cryopreservation of your bull’s sperm. The exceptional group of owners and staff in conjunction with the state of the art equipment, are a great stepping stone to becoming a leader in semen production. By participating in the CSS program, we are able to service our customers, as well as their customers throughout the world. It is my responsibility to ensure you receive the best experience possible with CGS, and the staff and I look forward fulling that obligation. We are all excited to show everyone the new equipment and renovations that have been made, so please do not hesitate to stop by or give us a call.
Prior to joining the CGS team, I earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Animal and Poultry Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. I spent the last 7 years in the Semen Collection Industry with Genex Cooperative Inc., where I gained scientific and practical knowledge integral to sire care, semen collection, laboratory management, and semen evaluation. Those experience have allowed me to work with the very best bulls and cattle producers in the world, and I am amped to continue to do so. My wife Karen, two daughters Ashlyn and Mckinley, and I are passionate about the beef industry which is evident as we continue to work with the development of our registered Hereford herd.
